Polypropylene, commonly abbreviated as PP, is defined as a thermoplastic polymer widely used in the medical, automotive and textile industries. As its name indicates, this material is obtained from the colorless combustible gas called propylene. Its synthesis was first achieved in the mid-20th century by chemists Paul Hogan and Robert Banks while working at Phillip Petroleum.

 

Practical applications of polypropylene began around 1960, in products and accessories such as laces, fishing nets, upholstery, and various household items. Thanks to its multiple applications, there is a high demand for a distributor of pp monofilament yarn today.

 

One of the greatest strengths of polypropylene is its mechanical resistance to fatigue, impact and other forces, which make it an ideal material for a wide range of applications. As with other plastics, the PP thread retains little moisture, so its qualities are not damaged by the action of rain or splashes.

 

Also, high temperatures are not a problem for materials made of polypropylene. Its melting point is 160 ºC, making it suitable for environments such as the automotive, mining or metallurgical sectors. As if that were not enough, it shows a high compatibility with different processing techniques.

 

The weight of the PP yarn is significantly lower than other plastic materials thanks to a minimum density, which increases its practical applications. In addition, it can act as an electrical insulator.

 

On the other hand, polypropylene is an eco-friendly fabric despite its synthetic manufacture. Used PP products can be reused and transformed into other useful elements, thus guaranteeing their circularity and minimizing waste and emissions of CO 2 and other polluting gases. And it is that polypropylene is an ally of human progress and the environment.
